Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture may successfully treat a wide variety of disorders, including gynaecological, menopausal and fertility problems; migraines; digestion imbalances; arthritic and general musculo-skeletal pain and inflammation, and disharmonies such as anxiety, depression and insomnia.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture uses the needles to stimulate and guide the body's own healing process, and unlike hypodermic needles, Acupuncture needles do not put anything into the body and do not take anything out. This delicate procedure leads to a virtually pain free experience, and Lucy is renowned amongst her patients for her gentle needling technique, allowing even needle-phobic people to enjoy the many possible benefits of acupuncture treatment. A pleasant tingling sensation, a buzzing or an aching may be experienced during treatment, indicating the strength and movement of the patients' energy.

Lucy also uses, where appropriate, Chinese heat treatment in the form of a Moxa herb stick, which is lit and burnt well above the acupuncture needle to put a very soothing, nourishing warmth into the body to give an extremely relaxing experience. All aspects of a patients lifestyles is taken into consideration, including any dietary changes which may be appropriate under Traditional Chinese medicine theories in order to offer the most comprehensive health care for patients.

Practitioner:

Successful completion of the University of Salford three year, full-time B.Sc. Hons degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with full professional accreditation with the British Acupuncture Council; ensures that Lucy has extensive knowledge and understanding of the theories behind acupuncture and how each individual responds to the therapy, as well as clinical management skills and practicing experience. She is the most established practitioner of Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in West Kirby, and has worked within the esteemed Osteopathy & Natural health Clinic for 11 years. Dedicated to patients, Lucy's clinic is welcoming, professional and like acupuncture, views each individual as a whole.

Appointments:

The first appointment with Lucy will last up to 1 ½ hours, allowing plenty of time for the patient to fully explain how they are feeling and what they would like addressing, along with receiving a full treatment. Each follow up treatment lasts approximately an hour, with a review of how the patient has progressed and which acupuncture points should be used.
Osteopathy

Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and manual treatment concerning the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues of the body. Disturbance to our body mechanics due to injury, wear and tear, stress, poor posture or other causes can lead not only to aches and pains, but to poor function of our internal organs, and a potentially wide range of disease states. I use osteopathy - a hands on therapy to help prevent and treat injuries and to allow the different systems of the body to be free to function properly.

What to expect:

On a patient's first visit a detailed case history will be taken including details of general health and past illnesses and accidents. This helps to build a picture of the patient's present over-all condition. A physical examination will follow which may require the patient to remove outer clothing. This allows the osteopath to look at over-all posture and pay attention to the whole body, rather than just the part which is apparently troublesome. All this information helps the osteopath come to a diagnosis and to form a treatment plan to suit the needs of the individual.

Treatment:

Treatment involves the use of a broad range of techniques from massage and stretching of tissues, rhythmic joint movements and specific manipulation to the subtler, ‘light touch’ work of cranial osteopathy, which uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stresses throughout the body.
