Reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works on the feet or hands enabling the body to heal itself. . Reflexology may be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

A Reflexologist uses their hands only to apply pressure to the feet or hands. Sensitive, trained hands may detect imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages ease tension increase circulation and elimination might also be improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself.

Whilst the art of Reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, it wasn't until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as 'zone therapy'. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.

In the 1930's Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

Recent research from Japan, published in the research Journal 'Neuroscience Letters', has started to shed light on the ideas behind Reflexology using MRI's (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) of the brain.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy

Homeopathy has been widely used throughout the world for more than 200 years. Homeopathy is an effective system of healing which assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself and is based on treating the individual with highly diluted substances mainly given in tablet form. Based on their symptoms, a homeopath will match the most appropriate medicine to the patient.

Homeopathy is an alternative treatment based on observation, facts and built upon complete systems of theory and practice. The working mechanism of homeopathy is based on the law of similar and treating “like with like”, this means a substance that would cause symptoms in a healthy person is used to cure those same symptoms in a sick person by giving a minute dose of that substance. For example, one remedy which might be used in a person suffering from insomnia is coffea, a remedy made from coffee.

Scientifically it can not yet be explained precisely how homeopathy works, but new theories in quantum physics are going some way towards shedding light on the process. What we do know is that a carefully selected homeopathic remedy acts as a trigger to the body’s healing processes.

In 2000, the House of Lords’ Select Committee on Science & Technology cited homeopathy as one of the five Group One therapies, having “an individual diagnostic approach” along with osteopathy, chiropractic, herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Homeopathy can be safely used alongside conventional medicines and will not interfere with the action of medicines prescribed by your doctor. Because homeopathic medicines (often referred to as remedies) are non-toxic, there are no side effects and they are safe even for pregnant women and babies.
What is Chiropractic?

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care discipline which works from the premise that disorders and imbalances in a person’s musculoskeletal system, and the negative effect that those imbalances have on the nervous system, impact negatively upon the general health and well-being of that person.

Through gentle, specific manipulation of joints by hand, your chiropractor will alleviate tension and correct any misalignment of your skeleton to enable your nervous system to work more efficiently. This will realign your body to improve mobility and provide relief from pain and discomfort.

The treatment you receive during your consultation will be supplemented with advice on follow-up exercises and lifestyle changes which will reinforce the work carried out in your sessions.

While many people seek a Chiropractor for the treatment of back pain, neck pain, arm and leg pain and trapped nerves, Chiropractic can also be helpful for a variety of other ailments. For example, sports injuries often respond well to chiropractic treatment, as do tension headaches and Migraines, jaw pain, Sciatica and repetitive strain injuries.
